First and foremost, we seek to celebrate the grace and love of God through our singing. Composers and songwriters have been setting inspirational texts for centuries, expressing the many aspects of our faith through music. Singing about our faith provides us a simple way of expressing our love of God through our message in music.
FELLOWSHIP
There are many reasons for joining a choir and band at the Cathedral of the Rockies. For young and old alike, the close sense of Christian fellowship is one of the things they look forward to all week. Just like team sports, making music teaches people how to strive for a common goal and how to be responsible to something greater than self. For the individual, music generates a sense of greater self-confidence and an improved sense of self-worth.
FUN
Becoming involved in the Boise FUMC Ministry of Music is fun! From our weekly rehearsals, to Sunday worship, to our mission tours: the smiles and laughter tell it all!
FRIENDSHIP
The friendships that are made within the Ministry of Music often last a lifetime. Many preschoolers who sing in Angelus choir graduate with their friends as High School Seniors from the Epworth Chorale. They often remain friends through college into young adulthood and beyond.
Cathedral Concert Series
Every year, the Ministry of Music creates a concert series that serves to provide the Treasure Valley with the highest caliber of sacred music. Headlined each year by the annual production of Christmas at the Cathedral (usually on the second weekend of December), the Ministry of Music also showcases the finest local, national, and internationally-ranked musicians. Previous Cathedral Concerts have included English organist, Jeremy Filsell, the Lurther College Symphony Orchestra, and local pianist, Chris Housel. Ticket sales and suggested donations support the Ministry of Music's dedication to musical excellence to the church and community.
Cathedral Conservatory
In 2003, the Ministry of Music made a deep commitment to the Boise FUMC family by providing year-round musical instruction with music professionals at a reasonable cost. Musical education is imperative to a person's development as it teaches several core values: commitment, responsibility, dedication, and belief in self. Instruction is available to people of all ages; voice instruction is limited to those over the age of 12. Please contact the Ministry of Music office at 208.343.7511 for more information.
